Play Canfield Solitaire Online - The Challenging Classic
Canfield Solitaire, also known as Demon, is a challenging classic variant with unique features: a 13-card reserve pile and foundations that start at a random rank! This creates endless variety and requires adaptable strategy.
How to Play Canfield Solitaire
Objective: Move all cards to the four foundation piles, building them up by suit.
Unique Features
- Random Foundation Base: Foundations don't always start with Ace - the first card dealt determines the base rank!
- 13-Card Reserve: A special reserve pile that auto-fills empty tableau spaces
- Wrapping Foundations: Foundations wrap around (if base is 7, build 7,8,9,10,J,Q,K,A,2,3,4,5,6)
- Stock Pile: Draw 3 cards at a time through the remaining deck with unlimited redeals
Basic Rules
- Tableau builds down in alternating colors (wraps from Ace to King)
- Foundations build up by suit starting from the base rank (wraps from King to Ace)
- Move sequences: You can move properly built card sequences as a unit
- Empty tableau spaces: Can only be filled by cards from the reserve pile
- When reserve is empty, any card can fill empty tableau spaces
- Reserve automatically fills empty tableau spaces when cards are moved
Winning Strategy Tips
- Understand the base rank - Plan your strategy around the random starting rank
- Manage the reserve - It auto-fills tableau, use this to your advantage
- Clear the reserve first - Priority is emptying the 13-card reserve pile
- Build foundation evenly - Keep all four foundations at similar heights
- Watch for wraps - Remember both foundations (K→A) and tableau (A→K) wrap
